We've all seen the symptoms: PCs that take forever to start up, hard disks that constantly complain about low disk space, hourglasses that never seem to disappear, and constant error messages and so on.

These are all pretty good indications that your PC is in need of an MOT. In much the same way as your car needs an annual service to keep the oily bits working properly, your computer responds well to an annual Healthcheck.

Blackdog are offering a 50-point check for any PC or notebook computer, old or new. The make and model is irrelevant. It's important to realise that this isn't a repair service - if your systems as dead as a doornail, you can't get a Healthcheck but Blackdog do offer a separate computer repair service.

The first and most vital check is a full virus scan, followed by checks on all the PC's major components, Windows settings and so on. Unwanted files that are clogging up your hard disk and programs you don't use any more can be removed and the Recycle Bins emptied.

There are an estimated 55,000 known viruses currently roaming cyberspace, and more than 20 per cent of PCs Health checked contain a virus - even with most having anti-virus software installed.

At the end of every Healthcheck you will be given a full diagnostic report and recommendations. It is then up to you how you wish to proceed should your computer need any repairs or parts. Blackdog can do this for you or you can take your PC to any other repair service provider. Should you wish to use the Blackdog repair service then you will qualify for a discount.

Repair Service

Blackdog will install any necessary parts and configure your PC to your satisfaction. If you have had a Blackdog Healthcheck and are following any recommendations that we have made then you will automatically receive a 10% discount on any labour charges.

Your PC will be collected and taken to our workshop for repair by our professional technician. After repair it will be re-delivered to your home/office and setup and tested ready for you to use.

What will you need?

Firstly, it is vital that YOU back up any files or folders that you need to an external hard drive or memory stick prior to collection of your PC. You will need to send all original disks (not copies) that you have installed on your PC and any operating disks in case we have to reformat the hard drive or restore any drivers. You must disconnect your PC and have it ready for collection by us. No need to worry about packaging as we will put it into one of our labelled boxes.

How long will it take?

We aim to have the PC on its way back to you within 48 hours of receipt in our workshop. However, this will solely depend upon what repairs are needed in order to get your PC back to health (not all parts are in stock).

What will my fee include?

The fee is to cover any labour cost incurred by our technician in fixing your computer. We will contact you and quote for any parts required before continuing the work.

What are the charges for repairs?

There are two types of repair service available:

Fixed Fee: £75 + vat
This is one of our cheapest methods as no matter how many hours it takes to fix your PC you will not be clocking up any further labour charges. The only likely costs on top of this fee is that of any parts needed.

Collection and Delivery: £35+ vat per hour (onsite) £30+ vat per hour (off site)
We will collect your PC from your home/office and deliver it back to you when it has been repaired. You will be charged per hour for labour and fixed carriage fees depending upon your location.

Please note that time spent on your premises will incurr further labour fees at the normal hourly rate to include setting up of your PC etc.

IMPORTANT: Before having your PC repaired you MUST backup and saved data or files that you do not wish to lose as Blackdog Services Ltd will not be held responsible for any lost data or files that have not been previously backed up.
